Meet Kat!

In college I fell in love with mountain biking. Carless, I biked up the five or so uphill miles to the trails from campus and couldn’t get enough. One of my good friends would also ride to the trails, but only as a means of transportation. We both couldn’t understand why the other would run when you could bike, and vice versa. I credit her with getting me into running and I’ve only had short stints of biking since. Last year, however, I wanted to get back into it, bought a new steed, and fell in love again, with a much more comfortable geometry and fun, bike-specific trails. It’s still second fiddle to running, but I’m super excited to do more of it this year. I’ve always wanted to have a mountain biking leg of Cascade Endurance, but also knew that while I’ve coached mountain bikers to successful races and goals, I don’t have the same intimacy with the intricacies of the sport like I do with running. Enter Kat Power (not to be confused with the wonderful musician of the same name).

I first met Kat when she showed up on a whim at our Loup Loup Skimo race several years ago, and placed third in the split board division. I’d run into her at the bike shop over the years, and then kept hearing of an awesome woman around the valley who does technique clinics and camps for kids and adults alike. As I began scheming of how to have more of a mountain bike component, I thought I’d chat with her if she’d ever thought of doing more coaching aside from in person. I’m excited to say that Kat is now available to help you have more fun, get stronger, and accomplish bigger goals with your gravel and mountain biking.

Kat will be working with individuals, our Summer MTB Training Program that starts May 10, and coaching the MTB Technique Clinic for the Peak Practice Retreat on June 26. Read more about her, or you can reach her directly here. Welcome, Kat!
